Needs Assessment Study for Designing Teacher Education Diploma Curriculum - Madhesh University

TECSES and Madhesh University conducted a needs assessment to support the development of a new one year Teacher Education Diploma Curriculum in Madhesh Province, Nepal. The study identified key challenges in teacher education, including a gap between theory and classroom practice, limited learner-centred pedagogy, insufficient inclusive teaching skills, weak ICT integration, and exam-focused assessment practices. Based on field research and stakeholder consultations, the study recommends a practice-oriented curriculum that strengthens pedagogical skills, inclusive education, digital competence, formative assessment, and teacher motivation. The findings provide an evidencebased foundation for preparing future teachers with the competencies needed to improve the quality of education in Nepal.
